"A woman can insist she would never choose to have an abortion while affirming her support of the right of women to choose and still be an advocate of feminist politics. She cannot be anti-abortion and an advocate of feminism."

Macbook Air

I just had a nerd orgasm.

Apple just announced their new Macbook Air, the worlds thinnest laptop. I'll post pictures when they are put up...at the moment it has been released for 20 minutes. No lie.

Sara Bareilles

I love finding an artist that I can not only relate to but holds the same values and seems to enjoy being unconventional.

Her current single "Love Song"

And if you happen to pick up her current album "Little Voice" you will find a more commercialized version of this video. In the end she is an artist that I hope is successful and is around for a long time.

And just because this has been on repeat for me hitting close to home I guess.

I’m not a Fem Nazi.

I never heard the term Fem Nazi until I got into a political discussion with my boss at my design internship. It was light hearted non-confrontational but after the conversation ended he stopped me and said, “I despise Fem Nazi’s as much as I hate male chauvinists.”

At the bar I work at, our only male bartender greets me daily by saying, “How is my favorite man hater today?” Yet again said light hearted but in the back of my mind I know that the realistically he is serious.

In the eyes of the uneducated, feminism is all about man bashing and bra burning. For me it is different, I am a feminist but in the way that I don’t see things as our society would like for me to, I can see through advertising and the idea that I am feminine by the clothes and makeup I wear. That sexy is thinness and that the body I have at this very moment does not hold up to societies beauty ideals. That I should be quiet and dainty, which even if I was quiet I could never be dainty.

What I find attractive in other women is independence and being strong willed. Being your own person and not being a girl who feels lost without a man holding her hand. I understand that most women are brought up believing that they are to wait for the man of their dreams, but I never had that opportunity. I have had to learn how to get what I want on my own, the week after I turned 16 I was told to get a job unlike my brother who was always given my fathers credit card to fill his gas tank and was never told to do the same thing if he wanted spending money.

Now I am not going to say that my father didn’t ever help me out financially, since it has been very different but during my parents divorce I had to have a job so that I could graduate from high school since I lived outside of district and had to drive to school. I live with my mother now but I have never had a guy around to lead me through life, hold open doors and do all of those nice things that girls are suppose to be use to.

There are girls at work who will talk with me about the topics that I am thinking about at any given moment and they will always let me know that they are not like me. It’s strange that even women seem to think that the idea that being a feminist is a bad thing, probably because they to have been told that we are man haters. It seems like the people who are most likely to make change in the future are filled with the idea that feminism is wrong/bad.

I just like the idea of looking at the world as a skeptic, I am aware that can be bad at times, but I think its far worse to wear blinders and never wonder if the information you are given or how your world around you is being run might not be right.

Summer Please?

This is the time of year that I start getting sick of Michigan's winter weather. I long for no more jackets or socks, skirts, going commando in skirts (long skirts people), bare feet, and swimsuits any chance I can get.

Oh and lots of sunblock. I’m thinking about when I’m 80 and wrinkle free people.

The ‘Skinny’ on Resolving Your New Year

Two days after Christmas I woke up at 7am, an ungodly hour for me to wake up since that meant I had only slept 4 hours and I stumbled into my eye doctor for my yearly check up before driving off to the mall to spend all of my gift cards that I got for Christmas.

Now I love makeup, but I am the type of person that pretty much hates talking to the people who work at Sephora unless it involves them finding something for me. Since I got there at 11 am I was the only person in the store and the girl working the door asked me if I had any “beauty resolutions,” like I actually planned on buying more crap from them than I already do. I just laughed and then declined letting someone give me a make over. I have a rule that if the person who works at Sephora looks like they cannot put makeup on themselves, how in the hell are they going to put it on me?

Anyway back on topic, I was wandering the store, looking for lip gloss since I feel left out at work when all of my co-workers whip their lip gloss out at the beginning of the shift and smother their lips with gloss, and found something that almost made me throw the tester on the ground and stomp on it in anger.

FUZE Slenderize Guilt Free Lip Gloss

Quench your thirst for a beauty buzz with FUZE Slenderize Guilt Free Gloss. Infused with the healthy, delicious fruit flavors and appetite curbing energy boasting ingredients found in FUZE Slenderize beverages. One Delicious dab on the lips will give you a taste of what all the Hollywood starlets are losing it over! Always on the lips, never on the hips!

Maybe its me, maybe my brain has developed to have higher brain power than the average female that shops at Sephora because next to me, as I tried to control my anger, two girls were so excited that they could wear lip gloss that would help them lose weight.

My first thought is how desperate is Too Faced for making a lip gloss with the explicit idea that they want their end users to lose weight. My second thought was wondering if there is someone out there that eats their lip gloss.

The idea that lip gloss could help someone lose weight is so far fetched that I cannot even believe that this is being produced. With the idea that the active ingredients in the lip gloss is what is so slenderizing it really makes me wonder if someone would ingest enough of the lip gloss for it to have any effect on the user. So the idea that you would literally have to eat the lip gloss for any of the active ingredients to get into your system just makes me laugh.

Then I googled the product and found a blog by someone who seriously needs some help, Beauty Blogging Junkie wrote,

Last night I applied some before dinner and ate a slightly smaller amount than usual. Then, this morning, I applied some before my morning commute to work. As a gal who usually lunches at noon (even when I eat breakfast), I was pretty stunned when I didn't feel the need to grab food until 1:45pm. It's true that I was busy... but I'm just saying. I usually never eat later than 1pm.

So now this lip gloss is an appetite suppressant?

Then Sephora.com got on my I fucking hate you list when they listed their “Beauty Resolutions: Make 2008 the most gorgeous year yet.” Guess what I found, listed 4th on their resolutions was “I will lose weight” with Too Faced’s lip gloss and the caption,

This resolution is hardly original. But when beauty is involved, we'll jump on any bandwagon. Too Faced's new gloss packs wondrous ingredients that promote appetite-normalization. Swipe it on your lips to help kiss those unwanted pounds goodbye.

I think it’s just the idea that a makeup distributor is not only advertising its product by saying how much more “sexy and beautiful” you will be but you will also lose weight.

Next up eye shadow that will blind you so you cannot see food. Lets see how much more irrational thinking we can have for the year 2008.

** Edit, To BBJ I never said I wasn't a douche bag. But thanks.
